DUSTIN IS HOME!!

Just a quick note to say thank you to everyone who prayed and supported us as Dustin was in Ecuador! He is safely HOME now!! I picked him up at the airport yesterday at 10:00 AM, and we both had the whole day off work to just be together. It was wonderful.
He has lots of wonderful pictures and stories to share, and we'll be posting those together this weekend.

E-mails from South America #8

Here is most of the e-mail that I recieved this afternoon. One of the most touching ones so far...

Sunday Afternoon
I am sorry that i did not write last night. By the time we got back all the internet places were closed. Yesterday morning TIm made some final statements on leadership and i took lots of notes. it was very good and afterwards the people shared their appreciation. after this we ate lunch and it was very good. then we went to go get some gifts and the store had lots to choose from. i hope i made some good choices. after this we went back to juan's house but on the way we picked up some ice cream. later, tim went to a meeting for a discussion on youth and music. they wanted him to help out with their problems. from what i heard he did a great job of helping them solve their problems and pretty sternly too. During this time i played with juan's wife's sister's children. His nephew (elian)and neice. I believe that just recently the childrens mother had been left by the father. it is a very sad situation. but me and the kids played volleyball and soccer together. it was hilarious. i drew some pictures for them after this and it made them laugh. we read the story of sampson and they helped me with my spanish. then we went around the kitchen naming things in english and spanish. they really seemed to enjoy helping. i probably am like an infant to them. anyhow, after the meeting was over, we went out to eat with a man named ricky cajas. we went out to a pizza place and it was definitely one of the best pizzas i have ever had- ham and pineapple. the put pepper on top with no sauce and it was just right. i wish that you could taste it. later we went to the park because the ninos wanted me to come play and so we did. later i was told how special it was for me to take the time to play with them and how much it meant. This morning we went to the church service and we sang a ton and people gave testimony and thanks for the conferences. also, a man came forth and repented before the whole church and wife and son. the Lord had broken him, and he came before everyone with tears and explained that he had been in sin. i have never seen this before. but it was genuine, it was real and before everyone. miriam (our translator) pointed out that it was great timing that this happened after the conference and that they will know how to encourage them and bring him help him with his walk with the Lord. Later everyone said goodbye, and gave tim and me presents. i got a cool t-shirt with puyo and ecuador written on it with all kinds of animals. it is really neat. after the service we did not even have time to eat, it is 6 p.m. here and we still have had not much of anyhting. we left puyo in a rush (stressful) after the service we darted out running into the house and snatching our things (hoping not to leave anything) and running to the bus stop with all of our stuff. the bus did not arrive for another ten minutes :). But we said our goodbyes to the family and hopped on. the bus ride back was fine but it lasted around 5 hours. we talked, i listened to music and finally we are back here in quito staying in missionary housing. it is very very nice here. here they have high speed and we have a bathroom in our room. i will have to take a picture. we are getting ready to go out eat. i am not sure where.

E-mail from South America #7

Here's is an e-mail that I got on Friday night (without the "sweet nothings"). Dustin was finally able to call me yesterday afternoon, and we were able to talk for over an hour. It was wonderful. I'm realizing how much I take for granted just having simple conversations with him. Please pray for them as they leave tomorrow night and arrive in Raleigh on Tuesday morning.
Jennie

Friday Night
we are here in puyo, ministering in the same way. not too much to tell about the meetings but they seem to be taking on well. the food has been great and someone is taking us out tonight for dinner. a man from a pentecostal church. it is so awesome to be outside of the box, to commune with fellow believers. i thought my train was on track before i left, but God has caused it to jump track. I have not been able to call because our time is very short. i cant even go back and check old emails because this computer is so slow and we have to go soon. i will do what i can, but i think the most likely time that i will be able to call will be saturday afternoon, so please have your phone ready. thank you again for continuing to pray for me. These people are so smart here and passionate for the Word, i cannot even explain it. I love you, Dustin

E-mails from South America: #4, #5, #6

Here are more e-mails from Dustin (without the personal stuff). Thank you all so much for your prayers. Only six more days!!
Also, as I said before, Dustin is usually rushing to get off the computers he can use, so please excuse the grammatical errors.

Tuesday Afternoon
i am right now in an internet store. Thank you for staying in touch with my parents. I miss you very much and need all of your prayers. i am teaching the lesson today on husbands at 3:30 so if you get this please pray for me then. it is so hard to communicate with certain people, some seem annoyed because we´re americans and can´t communicate very well. right now i am on this computer and have absolutely no idea how much it costs. apparently i must pay afterwards. i don´t know if i will be able to call you, but I will try if i can and am able to communicate with someone if possible. my spanish is improving but if you speak any they expect you to be nearly fluent rattling off 10,000 words per sentence. anyways, i love you and will write you tonight.

Tuesday Night
i have been having a conversation with guillermos family and it has been very challenging for my spanish. but let me tell you about today. we arrived at the church around 3 and met the same two groups today. i spoke first on the lesson on husbands. it went well however the women have no example or male role model that even compares to the man in ephesians 5 and col. so i was asked very hard questions such as how do we get these men back into church, what if they are unbelievers.. and so on. it was interesting and i hope that they were encouraged. apparently they have no male leadership besides tha pastor and a single man 22 by the name of david. after this the others led in the lessons as well. they did a great job. the second group had not gotten
this far but time shared with them the importance of a personal relationship with Christ and this was to the men- therefore exactly what they need to hear. they can´t step up if their relationship with the Lord is off. we ended the night and said our goodbyes and they gave tim a shirt and gave me a souvenir de ecuador. it went well and they basically begged us to come back next year to share with more churches and they are going to continue to implement the manual on their own! exactly what it was intended for. we are off to puyo tomorrow and the trip is 5-6 hours drive. i don´t believe we will be doing much tomorrow besides traveling. i hope that i can get in touch with you somehow, this is headed towards the jungle.

Wednesday Morning
last night as with the family we were speaking to guillermos nephew, giobanni. guillermo says that he is unsaved but he seemed to know all the right answers, but i am sure that guillermo knows more than we do on tte subject. anyways please pray for him that he comes to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior. today we a taking the viaje´ to puyo. with all the major changes that tim has seen since the last time he visited he is sure that the roads will be much better, especially since they are major so do not worry at all, nor should you anyways but you know that. the Lord is so faithful, i do not understand, even as we go astray and seek after other things, when we return it is as if He never left, and He hasn´t. praise the Lord for this trip and all that He is doing here and in tim´s heart and mine. these people are family, you have seen it in mexico. there is work in the americas to be done and we get to be apart of it. saddle up baby! if i can i will try to call you later, no promises, but the promise of Jesus Christ and the promise of my love for you.

E-mail from South America #3

Here is the e-mail from last night, minus the mushy stuff. Please keep Dustin in your prayers as he and Tim will be travelling 4 hours through steep mountain terrain on a bus either today or tomorrow. This e-mail is the most enthusiastic one so far. I can tell that Dustin is thrilled to be there doing work for Christ.
Please pray for me too... last night was definitely the most difficult. It feels like half of my heart just isn't there (I know... very sappy). I think I will be better if I can just hear his voice. It's weird to just be pen-pals with your husband! I have a whole new compassion for military families who go without their men for months. I cannot imagine what that would be like.
PS: Dustin is writing as quickly as possible because he is on another person's computer, which is the reason for all the typos.

Monday
I cannot possibly describe to you all that is going on here but I will try. I will begin from the morning. we woke up around 6 this morning, but had plenty of sleep. Tim played sudoku and i listened to adrian rodgers going to sleep. We woke up and ate breakfast with guillermo´s family (enermo) we had tortillas de juevos. last night we had chicken and it was the best meal yet by the way. after breakfast we went with guillermo as he went to work and he dropped us of at the church where we traveled around the streets and to the mall. we did not have to be at the church until three thirty so this gave tim and me a great chance to talk about the manual and enjoy the scenery. their mall was huge; four stories high with mcdonalds kfc (lunch) abercrombie and fitch baskin robbins, and a few other american stores. after eating at the mall we walked the streets and we went to a coffee shop and the cafe´of course was great. the streets of quito are colorful and full of stores. we went into a few markets but tim said the prices were high. it started to rain pretty good and i ended up buying a jacket (water proof) for $10!!!! it is pretty nice - blue with two grey stripes. well we got to the church at 2:30 unaware that we weren´t supposed to be there until 3:30. well the first meeting started at three. most of the ladies from the previous meeting showed up and tim shared the second half with them. this meeting was supposed to end at 5 but the pastors wife asked us to stay until 6, would this happen in america? all of the women were participating, they saw the need of their church and they spoke this in front of the pastor and the pastor agreed. the most amzing thing though was when the pastor asked tim as well as myself to come back and explain this to other churches! He gets it, and the church gets it! God is moving!!! the pastor asked tim and i specifically if we would come back in january but tim is not available until march. january, february, march until tim said that he would come without any hesitations- what faith! and apparently i am coming back too to help teach. i´m not quite sure what is going on here but God is giving me a piece of the vision that he has given to tim, a piece that we can use for our ministry after learning this biblical model, me to the men and you to the women. i can´t wait to show you all of these things. the pastor invited us to dinner for china commiendo (chinese food) and tim and me had chicken and pinneable- it was pretty good, it was weird hearing a chinese person speak spanish. well after dinner we went to the second meeting, this time with the men and a few women, they did not seem as knowledgeable as the first group but they got the main points. anyway, it is going great and tommorow night is the last time i will be able to write from this computer so i will try to find another way to communicate.

E-mails from South America

Here are parts of the e-mails that I have recieved from Dustin (minus the personal stuff). I will continue to post them as I get them. If you're interested in hearing the details of the trip, check back every day or two... Hopefully I'll have some great pictures to post when Dustin gets home. I'm praying that he'll be able to call me tomorrow or the next day when they go to a different city. Please continue to pray for me too this week. Thank you all so much!
Jennie

Saturday Night
We are in equador. We arrived safely and the flights were great. We have met tim´s contacts and they are very loving and kind. we ate at a mcdonalds and it was delicious. We have a whole lot of people praying for us. This might be the only way i can get in touch with you for the next couple of days. so be sure to check it every night probably around eleven.

Sunday Night
I am here now at enermo´s house (juans brother). Today was huge. We got up at around six after going to bed at almost one in the morning. We woke up and had breakfast (Eggs, bread and some form of local fruit spread, hot coco) Then we went to enermo´s church and went to something like sunday school that the pastor lead. We were under the impression that he was not in favor of the manual. After this he taught a lesson from second hessitations on some diagram about the four past of our being. very weird. however after this the pastor and his wife invited us to lunch and wanted tim to start the manual at 3 o´clock. The pastor seemed to be very kind and helped to serve everyone. We had green banana soup and some chicken and i think rice. they offered lettuce but it probably had been washed in the water so we did not partake. overall the meal was pretty good. After this tim prepared for his lesson and began with his translator who was nearly fluent. the lesson went great and aparently the pastor wants to come with us to puyo which is four hours away! So i guess he supports the manual now. we will be staying here for two more days and then leaving for puyo which is juans home. i cannot believe i am in ecuador. there is such a great need here as in most of the south american churches to be revived with the Gospel. i have taken some great pictures and cannot wait to show you. our schedules are so crazy and are according to this families schedule that i cannot stay on the cpu. but i will write you when i can and will have to find some other form of communication in puyo. please continue to pray for me everyday, i´m not sure how much help I can really give here. i think my two main purposes after seeking His glory would be encouraging tim and learning from this trip. maybe there will be more for me to do in Puyo.

Pray for us!

Hi Family and Friends!
I just wanted to ask all of you to please be praying for Dustin and me over the next several weeks. Dustin was asked yesterday by my Dad if he'd be interested in going on a mission trip to Quito, Ecuador, South America! He is going to go, and it's coming up very soon. He'll be leaving Raleigh on October 20th around 1:30 PM and he'll be returning to Raleigh on October 30th around 10:00 AM. God has miraculously provided all the funds for the trip, which is wonderful because we wouldn't be able to afford it on such short notice. Someone generously donated frequent flyer miles, which saves us $700!! My parents and the people in their church are also helping to fund Dustin. We are so greateful!
This trip will be a wonderful opportunity for Dustin to go and see areas of South America (especially since we are pretty sure that we will either be there or in Central America when we become missionaries after Dustin finishes school). It will also be great for him to spend this time with a real missionary! He will be going with Tim Bunn, an incredibly godly man who goes to my parents' church. He has written a manual for church-planting, and it is all based on the New Testament model for starting a church. Basically, Tim believes that planting churches in other countries should be done just like Paul did it in the Bible, and he's written a manual to help believers accomplish that. The manual has been translated into a number of different languages, and Tim regularly goes and meets with people using it in other countries. He recently went to Cambodia, and he is often all over the world. We really respect him, and we were honored that he and my Dad thought of Dustin when deciding on someone to accompany him.
We don't know for sure all that Dustin will be doing, but I'm guessing he'll be like an assistant to Tim. Tim will be teaching at a large conference there in Quito, and people are coming from all over to hear his lessons. Dustin will get to meet all these people, pray with them, and I'm sure he'll learn from them and be encouraged by their zeal for Christ! So please pray that God will use Dustin to accomplish His purpose on the trip.
PLEASE PRAY FOR SAFE TRAVEL!!
If you would, please pray for me too... I am so happy for Dustin, but every time I think about how far away he'll be, I get a huge lump in my throat. We haven't been apart overnight since we got married, and I don't know how I'm going to manage for ten whole days. Please pray for me to trust the Lord to protect my precious husband. Thank you all so much!
Much love,
Jennie Harrell

The Dixie Classic Fair!

On Saturday we went to the Dixie Classic Fair in Winston-Salem, NC. We went with Dustin's family, and it was so fun!! We got to do all of the fun things that we look forward to every year. It was fun to look at all the exhibits, see the livestock, ride lots of crazy rides, and eat lots of food. We enjoyed John Deere ice cream, fresh apple cider, fries, an elephant ear, pizza, and more... It was so good! You can't beat eating lots of junk food and then spinning in circles on the Himalaya.

Looking down at Dustin's Dad (who had just arrived after work) from the Ferris Wheel.
A cute little monkey at one of the animal shows we got to see.
The "Swifty Swine" pig races!!
This little pig actually leaps into a tub of water and swims accross to the other side!
I love ferris wheel pictures...
Dustin and Pops on the Thunder Bolt. That was a fun ride!
Kayla was the winning cheer-leader at the pig race, so she got a piggy keychain that does this when you squeeze it. Eww...
Kayla and Mom on the Ferris Wheel with the city of Winston Salem in the background.
On the Hang Glider! This ride was so fun. It feels like you're flying!
We could have ridden this one several more times. It was great.
Dustin and Kayla rode the Rok-N-Roll. They spun upside down while going in circles. I don't like rides that flip you over, so I chickened out. I was glad I did though... they were both pretty green when they got off.

On my favorite ride: the Himalaya! Mom and Aunt Donna at the pig races.
